With the Cowboys now eliminated from the playoffs, it’s time to look ahead to the NFL draft.
The Cowboys have found success with their early-round draft picks over the last few years. Selections like wide receiver CeeDee Lamb (2020), linebacker Micah Parsons (2021) and offensive tackle Tyler Smith (2022) have all elevated Dallas in recent seasons.
A talented roster can be the difference between a winning or losing season, an early playoff exit or, in the Cowboys’ case, an elusive championship run.

2023 NFL mock drafts
In his first NFL mock draft released Jan. 23, NFL.com analyst Bucky Brooks predicted the Cowboys would select Deonte Banks, a red shirt junior cornerback out of Maryland, with the 26th overall pick. Brooks suggested the Cowboys will seek out a companion for two-time Pro Bowler Trevon Diggs since Dallas struggled at the second cornerback position this season. After cornerbacks Anthony Brown and Jourdan Lewis went down with injuries, Dallas picked up cornerback Trayvon Mullen and Xavier Rhodes among others to attempt to fill the void opposite Diggs and cycled through several options throughout the season.
Pro Football Focus predicted the Cowboys will select cornerback Joey Porter Jr. from Penn State, according to its Cowboys mock draft released Jan. 24.
NFL Media analyst Daniel Jeremiah predicted the Cowboys would select Felix Anudike-Uzomah, a junior edge rusher out of Kansas State, in his first mock draft released Jan. 20, before Dallas’ loss to the 49ers in the NFC divisional round.
Early look at 2023 NFL draft first round order, where Cowboys ended up
The NFL released a tentative early look at the 2023 NFL draft first round order on Jan. 9 with the Chicago Bears holding the No. 1 overall pick. After their 19-12 loss to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC divisional round, the Dallas Cowboys slated in at the No. 26 overall pick.
Dallas used the No. 24 pick in last year’s draft to select offensive tackle Tyler Smith from Tulsa.
