When one is an athlete, they learn to accept their food cravings and maybe indulge sometimes. When someone is a professional athlete with a name as big as Alex Rodriguez, they need to be the masters of their own bodies because they cannot afford to fail in the ballparks. But how great is it when one’s tastes are limited to salt and their sweet tooth is non-existent?
A-Rod’s daughter once shared how her dad has a bizarre choice of desserts after his main course is over. Back in 2017, PEOPLE magazine interviewed Rodriguez and his daughters, Natasha and Ella, at the opening of one of his gyms in collaboration with the UFC. The girls sweetly shared how they loved spending time with the former shortstop at the gym or playing basketball, but that he certainly had weird food tastes.

The youngest Rodriguez said her dad doesn’t have much of a sweet tooth. “My dad loves Cheetos, any kind of chips and chewing gum. When he has a dessert, it’s some kind of chips,” she commented. To which A-Rod added, “That is because I like salt. I am not tempted by sugar.”

Where most people become addicted to sugar, especially when they can’t have it, Rodriguez seems to have it easy. He’s also a fitness buff and has spoken about how he likes to make his body sweat several times a week, even if he’s not a professional baseballer anymore.

The former Yankee has shown he’s not partial to sugar before. His ex-fiancee, Jennifer Lopez, once presented a birthday cake to him on his 44th birthday. Rodriguez was commentating on a baseball game and didn’t seem surprised to see J-Lo, accompanied by his daughters. However, the retired athlete left without taking a single bit of the sweet dish.
The writers at ESPN shared how no one had eaten the cake and just left it behind. When a photo of the cake was shared, a lot of people were amused at how extremely simple the cake looked, with an off-center ‘Happy Birthday.’ “This is for the ESPN family, because we’ve already given you one,” J-Lo had said at the time. Rodriguez said to his colleagues, “The whole summer has been one large cake.”
