Returning to the 911 E 2.2 Targa, there is no doubt that it is one of the versions that best embodies the spirit of the German sports car. The particular configuration with the roof and the removable rear windshield, but with the fixed central pillar, in fact, has always been very popular in the United States, especially in areas near the coasts where the sun shines. At the end of the 1960s, in fact, the 911 in Cabriolet configuration did not yet exist and would only make its debut on the international market in 1982 with the SC series. Furthermore, it is curious that the name Targa derives from the legendary Sicilian Targa Florio, one of the most famous speed races in the world which in those years was Porsche’s hunting ground.

The series with the 2.2-liter engine, then, had a series of technical improvements of some importance, such as the 6 cm lengthened wheelbase to improve stability at high speeds and the engine boosted to 125 or 155 or 180 HP depending on of the T, E, or S versions. The first was carburettor, while the second and third already used Bosch mechanical injection. The value of a 911 from those years, if in excellent condition, can even reach 150,000 euros.
