Mariners to induct Félix Hernández into team Hall of Fame

Longtime star starting pitcher Félix Hernández will enter the club’s Hall of Fame this summer, the Mariners announced Wednesday.
He will be inducted on Aug. 12, in the middle of a weekend-long celebration at T-Mobile Park that will take place Aug. 11-13.

Hernández will be the 11th member of the Mariners’ Hall of Fame, joining Alvin Davis, Dave Niehaus, Jay Buhner, Edgar Martinez, Randy Johnson, Dan Wilson, Lou Piniella, Jamie Moyer, Ichiro Suzuki and Ken Griffey Jr.

A six-time All-Star, Hernández won 169 games over parts of 15 major-league seasons, all played with the Mariners (2005-19). He was twice an ERA champion, including in 2010 when he won the American League Cy Young Award.

Hernández, who had a 169-136 record and a career 3.42 ERA, threw the last perfect game in the major leagues in 2012 against the Rays.

He is well-represented in the Mariners’ franchise record book, with the most victories, losses, strikeouts (2,524), starts (418) and innings pitched (2,779 2/3), and he is tied for the best ERA (500 innings pitched minimum) and is second in shutouts (11) to Johnson.
