The PGA Tour remains in California for its fourth event of 2023. Many of those who competed in the American Express at the PGA West Private Clubhouse stick around in the same state for the Farmers Insurance Open, which is to be held at Torrey Pines. Among them is Rickie Fowler. Following his underperformance at last week’s event, the pro has a plan to perform better this week.
Fowler had a less-than-ideal finish at the American Express. Despite having some heartfelt moments with a young fan at the event, he tied for 54th place. But the 5-time PGA Tour victor hasn’t let it affect him.

In a sit-down with Michael Collins and Jason Sobel on ‘Hitting the Green,’ Fowler opens up about his plan to come out on top while in Torrey Pines this week. SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio wrote on Twitter that the PGA Tour pro revealed: “what he needs to do to get comfortable with his swing and contend at Torrey Pines this week.”
Fowler explained that he knew his last week’s game needed improving. He stated that he wanted to get it up to a level where he felt “comfortable.” He admitted to knowing what he had to do on the course this week. “One of the big things is you’ve got to drive it well around both golf courses,” he said.
The PGA Tour star further added that he was certain about one thing and said, “I think the big thing before we tee it up on Wednesday is just knowing that I’m not going to be fighting any certain shot.” He explained that both courses demanded a strong and precise drive. Fowler mentioned that the North Course at Torrey Pines used to be a little shorter. And that earlier golfers could get away with drives that weren’t as good, but that wasn’t the case any longer.

The 156-player field sees many strong opponents that Fowler will face off against this week. It features 13 of the world’s top 20 players competing. Jon Rahm is one of the favorites to win the event because of his tremendous form. He’s won the last two events that he’s competed in this month.

The field also includes Justin Thomas and Collin Morikawa, both of whom will be looking for their first win of the season. Fowler certainly will have to pull up his socks to hold his ground against them all. But his resolve to do so is strong.
