Defenseman Andy Greene has announced his retirement after 16 NHL seasons and 1,057 career games. Greene signed a one-day contract with the New Jersey Devils on Wednesday to announce his retirement as a member of the club with whom he played for 14 seasons.
Greene, 39, amassed 264 regular-season points (52 goals, 212 assists) and 14 playoff points (five goals, nine assists) over his 16-season NHL career spent with the Devils and New York Islanders. The Devils signed the defenseman as a free agent in April 2006 following four seasons at Miami (Ohio) University. He went on to appear in 923 games with New Jersey and was named the 11th captain in Devils history on Oct. 8, 2015. He was traded to the Islanders in February 2020 for David Quenneville and a 2021 second-round pick.
