In the latest episode of Actions Detrimental, Denny Hamlin reflected on the plight of Legacy Motor Club. The team was recently acquired by Jimmie Johnson, in collaboration with Richard Petty. So the Richard Petty Motorsports team was renamed to Legacy Motor Club. Unfortunately, the organization has not been performing too well in the NASCAR Cup Series.
In light of this, Hamlin expressed his worry for the team and hoped that they can turn things around soon.

Hamlin mentioned in his podcast, “I don’t know what’s going on at Legacy [Motor Club] for sure.”
“They are not performing surely like we thought they were. Certainly, they’ve taken a step back from where they were, last year.”
“Noah [Gragson] has just been non-existent, again you never know what’s going on. Even Erik [Jones] has taken a huge step back in performance from last year to this year. There’s something, I don’t really know. All we know is, their performances’ fallen off a cliff dramatically. Hopefully, they get that hemmed up and we’ll see.”
“There’s probably big changes coming pretty soon.”
How has Jimmie Johnson’s team performed in the 2023 campaign?
So far, #43 driver Erik Jones has racked up two Top 10 finishes, with a season-best of 6th at Talladega. Meanwhile, teammate Noah Gragson in the #42 car has not finished higher than 12th this year.

Admittedly, the season is still underway, but things are not looking good for the organization. Both Gragson and Jones have been languishing at the back on multiple occasions, or in the midfield at most.

Hopefully, as Hamlin said, the team gets their act together and brings about some drastic changes. This is because it would be a shame to see a team of this caliber, down in the dumps. Jones won the Cup race at Darlington last year, so the car is capable of winning races. Additionally, Noah Gragson is a talented driver, so he should have also been a strong contender to win a race or two.

For now, it is just a matter of seeing how the rest of the season plays out.
