Kevin Harvick is undoubtedly one of the most outspoken NASCAR drivers out there. But that doesn’t mean that he cannot care about others’ feelings. In fact, his recent interview with the Athletic proves how much he cares about respecting people, even when it’s not a face-to-face conversation.

In his recent interview with the Athletic, Jeff Gluck asked Harvick that on a scale of 1 to 10, how good is he at responding to texts. To this Harvick replied that he considers himself to be a 9. Furthermore, he explained; “I think it’s completely disrespectful to not reply to a text message unless you’re asleep.”

Surprised by Harvick’s answer, considering he has two kids and an extremely busy schedule, Gluck appreciated the #4 driver’s efforts. Explaining what exactly motivates him, Harvick explained; “If I have a lot, I’ll wake up earlier in the morning so I don’t take time away from my kids. I just feel like it’s sending somebody the middle finger if you don’t respond to them in a timely fashion.”

Moreover, another reason why Kevin Harvick’s answer deserves applause is that it was much more considerate than what other drivers had earlier said in their earlier interviews. In fact, one can easily take Harvick’s answer as a direct aim at all the text message offenders.

Although Kevin Harvick did not exactly direct his comments toward a particular person, and it was clear that the Stewart-Haas Racing driver took a dig at all text message offenders. And who else other than Chase Elliott, William Byron, and Bubba Wallace to challenge for being the bigger text message offender? In fact, all three drivers did admit their offenses in interviews with the Athletic.

In an earlier interview, Hendrick Motorsport drivers William Byron and Chase Elliott shared that they are not at all good at responding to texts. Byron shared; “I used to feel really bad if I just left a text there for a day or so. But now I’ve been really bad about reading something and then not responding. And then they have to text me again and I’m like, “Oh, shoot. That was important.”

Furthermore, Elliott too confessed that he is a mess when it comes to texting. He revealed; “I do that a lot, where I forget I’ll read something and I need to get back to someone, but I ended up forgetting because I’ve opened it already. So I wish you could unread it to where you could see. Or have a mark for yourself to go back and take care of whatever you need to take care of.”
