Prior to his retirement at UFC 287, Jorge Masvidal was one of the biggest draws in the UFC. The former BMF champion rose to UFC stardom in the Twilight of his career and headlined four pay-per-view events. Reportedly, he also secured one of the more lucrative contracts from the UFC post his popularity boom.
Now, the 39-year-old has dropped a figure stating the highest payday he ever received while fighting for the promotion. Despite having his fair share of issues with the UFC regarding his paycheck, Masvidal only had good things to say about the way the UFC took care of its fighters.
‘Gamebred’ explained it all during a recent interview, a clip of which made its way to Reddit. While Masvidal dropped a massive figure as his highest paycheck and explained the upsides of fighting for the UFC, fans saw it in a different light.

While this figure impressed the interviewers, they were also intrigued about other aspects of the contract such as insurance. They wanted to know if the paycheck Masvidal mentioned included such add-ons.
The veteran replied, “The UFC takes care of us to an extent with medicals. So if anything happens to you at the fight or even in preparation for the fight, we’re very well taken care of. Or even after the fight, or in the gym, anything that happens in the gym we’re taken care of.”

He further added, “But we don’t have insurance outside of that like a dental plan but anything that happens related to fighting or training, they take full care of it.”
Meanwhile, fans argued that Masvidal may not have gotten his fair share of the revenue that he generated. They took shots at Dana White and his promotion in their reactions to the clip.
Fans not impressed by Masvidal’s multi-million dollar paycheck
Although he was a huge star, Masvidal had his share of naysayers as well. His persona earned him a cult following and made him a polarizing figure at times. Masvidal’s troubles outside the cage did not help his case either. Therefore, fans had mixed reactions to the details of his paycheck.

Following are some of their comments under the post:
Then sucker punched Colby and had to give that $5 mil to the guy who fathered him a few months prior
5 mil for 1.65 mil PPV buys is a joke, and Masvidal was one of the highest paid UFC fighters
Without a doubt that number includes everything related to that fight, not just show money.
When he says total I’m assuming there must have been other income from outside the UFC. He’s also definitely talking about UFC 244 which did 1.65 mil PPVs.
There was a headline that after izzy (and obviously conor) masvidal had gotten the ‘best contract’ at the time
The askren knee played a big factor in that one. And that is just a fact
The ufc doesn’t get to 1.65 million without special guys that connect with casuals like masvidal. 5 million is criminal and the suits of the UFC should be behind bars for sh*t like that. Don King type of sh*t
What are your thoughts on the situation? Do you think Masvidal received his fair share of the pie? What do you think of the insurance coverage details he revealed?
