The World Cup of Hockey will be delayed from 2024 to “hopefully” 2025, the NHL and NHLPA announced. Here’s what you need to know:
The tournament was originally scheduled to be played in February of 2024
The NHL and NHLPA said in a joint statement, “Unfortunately, in the current environment it is not feasible to hold the World Cup of Hockey at that time.”
The league and Players’ Association indicated they were looking at February of 2025 as the date of the next World Cup.
In October, NHL depty commissioner Bill Daly said there were outstanding issues with the International Ice Hockey Federation that still hadn’t been ironed out.
The last World Cup of Hockey was 2016 in Toronto, when Team Canada won. It was also the last best-on-best hockey tournament.
