Spire Motorsports is just not done with the massive overhaul of its driver lineup before the 2025 NASCAR season kicks off. At the Cup Series level, they have added the likes of Michael McDowell and Justin Haley. They even roped in veteran crew chief Rodney Childers to lead the No. 7 team. But this expansion drive isn’t restricted to the Cup Series level, as they are looking to implement this formula for the Truck Series program.
The silly season saga is on the final leg with the 2025 season about to kick off. And if we are to go by the rumor mill reports, JR Motorsports driver Sammy Smith could be headed back to Spire Motorsports in the Truck Series.
Is Sammy Smith leaving JRM?

Well, JRM certainly has made a massive overhaul and brought in new drivers to their lineup for the 2025 season. Connor Zilisch and Carson Kvapil’s additions indicated that the team wanted to continue their dominant run after Justin Allgaier’s championship triumph last year. Brandon Jones is headed back to Joe Gibbs Racing, whereas Sam Mayer joined Haas Factory Team.
With Justin Allgaier and Sammy Smith leading the charge and Kvapil and Zilisch’s addition, JRM’s driver lineup for the 2025 season looked set. However, a silly season fan page, nascarrumornostalgia shared an update stating that Smith might have more on his plate other than just an Xfinity Series commitment. “Idk if it’s been announced yet or not, but I expect Sammy Smith back in Spire trucks part time.”
2024 was his first season with JRM, and he did enough to retain his seat despite a massive shake-up. What’s interesting is the fact that he did run with Spire Motorsports last year on a part-time feature with the No. 7 team. It has to be noted Spire has made their intention clear about fielding four trucks for the 2025 season. Along with No. 7, No. 71, and No. 77, the team is looking to roll out with the No. 07 team. Corey Day will pilot the No. 7 truck, which suggests that Smith could be taking the reins of the #07 team for limited races.

Sammy Smith had a good outing last time around when he took command of a Spire truck on a part-time basis. He registered two top 10 and top 5 results in four races he competed in with the #7 team. Throughout his racing career, Smith has never run a full season in the Truck Series, so this streak of good runs is indeed impressive. But, again, we will have to wait on an official confirmation about this continued partnership from the driver or the team.
The only reason why Spire Motorsports hasn’t announced this yet is because of their unfinished business with Rev Racing.

Spire Motorsports is working on the transfer of owner points from Rev Racing
Spire took over Kyle Busch Motorsports and had a smooth transition in kickstarting their Truck Series venture. However, like KBM, they had an alliance with Rev Racing and provided them with equipment and personnel to compete. Nick Sanchez did turn heads with his blistering performances throughout the 2024 season as he racked up two wins and finished 5th in the overall standings.
But, Spire chose to pull the plug on the partnership as they were preparing to field a fourth entry for 2025. “The agreement between Spire and REV Racing expired at the end of the 2024 season. Spire elected not to purse a renewal of that agreement and enter a fourth Spire Motorsports truck in 2025.” But the real struggle is regarding the transfer of owner points, as REV Racing sold off the #2 entry to Reaume Brothers Racing.

So far there’s been no new development regarding the transfer of owner points from REV Racing. But the latest speculation and rumors surrounding Sammy Smith’s return at Spire might be an indication of things getting sorted out behind closed doors.
