Following his retirement from professional tennis, Roger Federer‘s fans eagerly awaited his return, perhaps as a coach. After a significant hiatus, the 20-time Grand Slam champion has resurfaced on the court, much to the delight of tennis enthusiasts and players alike. Even seasoned experts like Chris Evert and actor Ben Stiller were impressed by Federer’s exceptional skills at the Laver Cup. It’s clear that the Swiss Maestro still has what it takes!
Renowned journalist José Morgado re-shared the video from Tennis Legend on September 19th, showing Federer enjoying a rally with his two female opponents. And none of the players let their hair down during the practice. Moreover, Federer seemed to be testing his shots, as he said, “enjoying my slice,” before exchanging a few more blows and realizing that he “Still got it, baby!” Rightly so, he didn’t miss a shot in the whole video, and despite looking relaxed, Federer stayed it. And Evert couldn’t help but love his game, as she said, “Still beautiful!”
Joining her comment thread was the American actor and comedian, Ben Stiller, who was also blown by his game. He said, “Mesmerizing. Could watch this all day.” In response to this, Evert answered in the affirmative, “Right??,” enraptured by his gameplay, even after years of break.

It seems that Roger Federer picked up, right from the point where he left tennis, after 2 years. While handling the racquet in the same style as he did during his playing days- hitting beautiful slices and backhands, he celebrated a bitter-sweet week with John McEnroe and Bjorn Borg. The two veterans of the sport are set to face each other for the last time as captains at the Laver Cup.

During his interview with Sky Sports, the 20-time Grand Slam champion was worried about the dwindling state of tennis. Though technology has certainly made things easier for the upcoming generations, they lacked one thing according to Federer: Variety. While appreciating the intensity of the players, Federer felt that players were missing out on innovative shots, which contributed to the variety of the game.

He said, “I think the game is where it was, maybe just a step higher. Maybe there is a lack of variation, but that is because they are all double handers, they don’t use the slice as much nowadays. So naturally we don’t see as many drop shots. Obviously, Alcaraz does it a bit differently.” Carlos Alcaraz has proven his mettle time and again, and maybe that’s what got him in the good books of the Swiss Maestro. Rightly so, Alcaraz has a special knack for employing drop shots when his opponent is in peril.
Maybe that’s why Roger Federer stepped onto the court to show the younger generation that they are forgetting a few shots. Particularly, the drop shots! Hopefully, we will see more of Federer’s tennis in the upcoming days!
