The Bills will be White’s third different AFC East team in three seasons.
White signed a deal with the Dolphins to be Tua Tagovailoa’s backup last offseason after he put together an impressive couple of starts with the New York Jets in 2022. However, he recently lost the backup quarterback battle in Miami to former seventh-round draft pick Skylar Thompson, whom the Dolphins selected in the 2022 NFL Draft.

White is a former fifth-round draft pick by the Dallas Cowboys in 2018. He signed a four-year, $2.67 million deal and made the team as the third-string quarterback. However, in 2019, he was waived after the team decided to carry just two quarterbacks on the regular season roster. The Cowboys added him to the practice squad but chose to sign then-rookie quarterback Clayton Thorson instead.
After his brief stint with the Cowboys, White signed to the Jets practice squad in 2019. In 2021-22, he became a brief fan and locker room favorite as he was a breath of fresh air for the Jets and the fanbase.
The former fifth-round draft pick made a name for himself when he replaced former Jets quarterback Zach Wilson in 2021. He made his first career start and led the Jets to a win over the Bengals, 34-31. In his time in New York, White completed 62.6 percent of his passes with nine touchdowns and 13 interceptions.
White has played in 14 games, starting seven and recording a 2-5 record.
Before White was predominantly a backup in the NFL, he attended South Florida and Western Kentucky. In four college seasons, he recorded 863 completions for 11,262 passing yards and a completion percentage of 62 percent with 74 touchdowns and 31 interceptions.
White also won C-USA Newcomer of the Year in his first year at Western Kentucky and was named to the Second-Team All-C-USA in his final collegiate season.
The Bills have one of the best starting quarterbacks in the league in Josh Allen, and behind him is former No. 2 overall pick Mitchell Trubisky. However, their third-string quarterback, Shane Buechele, is currently on the injured reserve due to a neck injury he suffered in the preseason opener against the Chicago Bears.
In the meantime, White will be on the practice squad, and could see himself on the regular season roster at some point in 2024.
