Zack Martin appears to be hanging up his pads.
The longtime Dallas Cowboys guard has informed the team of his intention to retire from the NFL, two people with knowledge of the decision told The Dallas Morning News’ Calvin Watkins on Thursday.
Martin, the seven-time All-Pro guard, is a few months out from ankle surgery on a joint that cost him mobility during the 2024 season and limited him to just 10 games. But with nine Pro Bowls and 162 career games, he is still likely headed to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Before the end of the 2023 season, Martin hinted at a possible retirement. He was entering a contract year, in his mid-30s, and his health was hampering him. But once training camp started, Martin halted discussions with reporters about his future, indicating he was thinking only about the here and now.
