NASCAR champion Denny Hamlin has some very serious opinions about practice time for teams before the Daytona 500 begins. He has found support from across the NASCAR community—despite him not being a personal favorite of many.
Dirty Mo Media recently posted a clip from the “Actions Detrimental with Denny Hamlin” podcast on Twitter. He voiced an issue around practice time which makes complete sense.
The three-time Daytona 500 winner questioned why there was no practice time or schedule before the year’s biggest race began. After all, it is only natural for any sports organization to arrange practice sessions for the players to get the best potential out of them. And who is better than team owners—especially those with newcomers in their teams—to appreciate the value of practice sessions?

Unfiltered Denny Hamlin gives the owner’s perspective
In the clip, the visibly flustered 23XI Racing co-owner Hamlin was seen as saying, “We don’t have one lap of practice before we qualify for our biggest race of the year. Somebody had to explain that to me. I mean, I can tell you this from the owner’s perspective, it was never brought up to us, hey, we’re going to cut this you know.”

Pointing out that as team owners, they are blamed for such things whereas they haven’t been consulted on the topic in reality.

His concern for driver Travis Pastrana, who will be racing to qualify in NASCAR after a decade, is certainly valid. He said, “I mean, we’re sitting here and Travis Pastrana is going to be driving for us. He hasn’t driven a NASCAR car in almost ten years. We’re trying to figure out what parking lot we can take him to try to figure out shifts because he’s got one shot on qualifying to not stall and then get all the shifting right.”

The podcast with Denny Hamlin had a lot of interesting angles to it. Hamlin is not only a co-owner of the 23XI Racing team but also a Joe Gibbs Racing driver. And it looks like he might be following in Kyle Busch’s footsteps. In the interview, there was an indirect reveal that this might be his last year as a driver with Joe Gibbs Racing.
