Back in 2012, when the Yankees’ captain Derek Jeter found himself with a broken ankle, the Pinstripes moved to lose the ALCS against the Detroit Tigers, while the Tigers went on to get swept by the San Francisco Giants in the World Series. At the same time, former United States of America President Donald Trump dispensed a strange reason to credit Jeter’s injury.

Notably, Jeter owned an apartment at the Trump Tower. However, he decided to sell his apartment in the skyscraper owned by Donald Trump. Before doing so, Donald Trump alleged that he spoke to Jeter and elaborated on his Trump Tower apartment, being lucky for the shortstop.

Ultimately, a day before Jeter sold his apartment, he broke his ankle. Trump dubbed the injury as karma and said that Jeter should’ve never sold it. After the news of Jeter’s injury broke ground, Donald Trump reached for his Twitter handle with an avoidable comment.

Donald Trump tweeted, “Derek Jeter had a great career until 3 days ago when he sold his apartment at Trump World Tower — I told him not to sell- karma?”
While talking to Michael Kay of ESPN in a 2012 interview, Trump applauded the five-time World Champions’ greatness but persistently maintained his issue with the shortstop selling the flat.
He said, “You have to understand, fellas, I love this guy. I think he’s great. The people in the building love him. … But I did say to Derek, he’ll tell you, ‘Don’t sell your apartment. It’s been lucky.’ The day before he sold his apartment, he broke his leg, so what can I tell you?”

10 years after the incident with ex-President Donald Trump, Derek Jeter moved to achieve some of the biggest accolades in baseball. Three years after his retirement in 2014, the New York Yankees’ front office made an undisputed verdict to add a name with Jeter’s plaque to Monument Park in 2017. Not to forget that the Yankees retired Jeter’s iconic jersey no. #2 in the same year.
Three years down the line, in 2020, Jeter was elected into the MLB Hall of Fame with a record majority of 99.75%.
