A lesser-known fact about former US President Barack Obama is that he is an avid hooper. Obama was often seen playing basketball with staff and he hosted the NBA champions at the White House every year. In addition, he once sent a cryptic invite to NBA Legend Dwyane Wade and the latter just couldn’t refuse the president.

Obama had a long-standing relationship with the NBA and the players appreciated him at the highest office in the land. In his eight years in office, Obama invited every NBA champion team, and he seemed to share a good time with them. He was often seen at NBA games and the league also made him a farewell video when he left.

At the same time, he loved to play basketball, and he invited some legendary players to come to play with him.

Wade was recently on The Late Night Show with Jimmy Fallon and he was talking about playing basketball with celebrities. He said that he once he got to play with Obama. Wade explains that was it the president’s 49th birthday, and he got an invitation through a cryptic e-mail.

He said, ” I played a pickup game with President Obama on his 49th birthday. It was like a cryptic email that came through. I didn’t really know if I was just showing up and somebody played a trick on me or it was actually like the president’s birthday and we were going to hoop”

“All it said was, show up to the White House and bring your sneakers,” he added.
Dwyane Wade showed up, and it was actually a legitimate invite as the President wanted to play a game of basketball. And Wade says that the former president’s game was smooth, and he was a lefty. He also said that he wanted the players to play really hard with him. But they were scared after seeing the Secret Service around the entire court. So Wade admitted that they couldn’t foul him.

But Joakim Noah actually did end up playing hard, and he ended up elbowing him. And Fallon joked that he never got invited back. All in all, Wade had good words to say about Obama’s skills even though he didn’t believe that he was actually playing with the president in the beginning.
