Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan had one of the most successful careers in the NBA as a player. With six NBA championships through two three-peats and a perfect Finals record, not many can stand up to MJ in terms of accolades. However, the same success did not follow him as the owner of an NBA team. According to reports, a big Michael Jordan update regarding his ownership in the Charlotte Hornets has got the fans of the North Carolina team excited.
Michael Jordan bought a minority share of the Hornets, then known as the Bobcats, back in 2006. After the owner at the time, Robert L. Johnson, he eventually became the second-largest shareholder in the team. Following this, the 14x NBA All-Star became the majority stakeholder in 2010. During his tenure, the franchise hasn’t found much success, however.

Jordan took over the team in 2010 and became the first NBA player in history to own a team in the league. However, the team has mostly faced failure since Jordan took over the franchise as the majority owner. Under Michael Jordan’s reign, the team has had a winning record only three times out of 13 seasons.

Now, according to a report by Adrian Wojnarowski, “Charlotte Hornets owner Michael Jordan is engaged in serious talks to sell a majority stake in the franchise to a group led by Hornets minority owner Gabe Plotkin and Atlanta Hawks minority owner Rick Schnall.”
And fans are seemingly over the moon with this news. One fan tweeted, “MJ running from the grind… You hate to see it.”
Another fan commented, “Good. He’s done nothing for that team but drive them into the ground.”

It does not come as a surprise that fans were eager for Jordan to leave the helm and let someone else take over.
What’s next for MJ and the Hornets?
Days after Michael Jordan was ignored by one of his players on the bench, MJ has apparently decided to part ways with the team. Though that probably wasn’t the reason why he went ahead with that move. The Hornets’ terrible performance against the Orlando Magic at their home court could have played a part in the decision.

Another update from Adrian Wojnarowski stated, “No deal is imminent, but there’s significant momentum on a sale that would eventually install Plotkin and Schnall as the co-governors of the Hornets. If sale is completed, Jordan would be expected to keep a minority stake in team.”
