With the surge in the overall price tag to purchase an NBA franchise, celebrities and businessmen usually form a group to acquire a team. But for a single entity to make an offer to buy a team in the NBA is bound to turn some heads. And when that entity is former boxer, Floyd Mayweather, fans just seem to be in denial.

Recently, the Phoenix Suns were in talks of the ownership changing hands. Former US president, Barack Obama made headlines as part of a group that was interested in acquiring the Suns.

Floyd Mayweather is interested in being an owner
But looks like that is old news now that Floyd Mayweather made a $2 billion offer to an NBA franchise. Many fans are speculating how Mayweather can make such a huge offer, given that his net worth is around the $500 million mark.

NBA fans went onto Twitter to voice their confusion over Mayweather’s ridiculous offer. One fan tweeted, “ How on earth can he afford that? He owes millions in taxes.” While another fan commented, “Who he make a 2B offer when his net worth is 560M?”

Fans just couldn’t seem to wrap their head around the fact that Floyd Mayweather was able to make such an offer solely by himself.
Though NBA teams aren’t as expensive as the teams in the NFL, they sure come with a hefty price nonetheless. And as much as fans would want Mayweather to acquire the Lakers or a team of their choosing, that might not be the case.

Mayweather was open to an NBA league expansion
Only a handful of teams fall under the $2 billion mark in value. But would it be advisable for Mayweather to be the sole owner of a team in the league? Moreover, does he have that amount of funds to make such an offer?
According to reports, Mayweather made the $2 billion offer with business partner Brent Johnson for majority ownership. Earlier, Mayweather did say that he was interested in owning a team in Las Vegas or Seattle if the NBA was open to an expansion.
