Not long after making his MLB debut in 1995, baseball icon Derek Jeter fulfilled a part of another dream that he saw as a teenager. Aside from making a big name for himself in the Yankees, he was set on his way to date the songbird supreme, Mariah Carey. Even though the couple did not date for a long time, the short relationship turned Carey’s life around for good. After being in an abusive marriage with the producer Tommy Mottola for a long time, she learned to stand up for herself.
Contrary to what people believed, her fame never equaled her actual net worth. But that did not stop the paparazzi and fans from speculating rumors about her owning an airplane. However, after being with captain clutch, even for a short while, she learned to put her foot down and defy people’s notions about her.

From the Mariah Carey archives, in one of the interviews from 1999, the iconic singer stated how she was not the one doing crazy things. Like many celebrities from Hollywood, her name also got linked to various artists. But none of that was true, just like her going crazy and having a private airplane.
While telling her story to the reporter, she said shocked, “A plane?” This was followed by her saying that when she started, she was under contract to give the producer 50% of profits from her album. Doing so left her with little. This prompted her to say, “It made me mad. Even today, I’m not a millionaire.”
She then explained one of the reasons for it. It was because she was involved in an association for non-beneficial children. At the time, all that was important for her was spending time with people close to her.

How did Derek Jeter change Carey’s view of life?
It was the former athlete’s dream to not only date but marry the singer and not the other way around. But the relationship left a more significant and profound impact on Carey. When the two of them met, the singer was still married to Mottola. Having Jeter in her life made her realize that she needed to escape her abusive marriage.
