KEANSBURG, NJ — On Oct. 28, Monmouth County announced a list of towns that will receive county funding to make municipal park improvements.
Middletown did not receive any money, but Keansburg did: Keansburg received $75,000 from the county, and the big news is Keansburg will use it to build a brand-new pickleball court next to the three existing tennis courts at Collins Field. Keansburg plans to build a brand-new, 2,600-square-foot pickleball court, said Mayor George Hoff. It will have an eight-foot high chain-link fence around it to keep balls contained.
Resurfacing of the existing three tennis courts will also be done, with cracks repaired. Hoff said he expects the project will be awarded in December. He anticipates construction will start in February 2025 and the new pickleball court will be completed in May 2025.
Collins Field is located at the corner of Wood Avenue and Wood Street in Keansburg, and adjacent to the Henry Hudson Bike Trail. The Keansburg High School tennis team plays on the existing three tennis courts there, but resident can use the courts for free when not in use by the high school. Nearby, Aberdeen Township received $475,000 from the county to build a new snack stand and bathrooms at the baseball diamond at Fireman’s Field.
