NFL picks against the spread: Vic Tafur’s Week 5 predictions

It would be pretty cool if Sean McVay came into your office and gave you some Chunky soup and a chest bump, wouldn’t it? But the soup would probably be cold, as the Rams are 2-2 (1-3 against the spread) and are tied for the fifth-worst point differential in the NFL at -24.
Actually, McVay might need a chest bump more than anybody. When the topic of signing Odell Beckham Jr. came up, ESPN announcers Troy Aikman and Joe Buck relayed Monday night that McVay said he hoped the Rams were still relevant when Beckham is back from knee rehab in late November. Yikes. (Maybe he needs something stronger than minestrone.)
The public agrees with him, as the point spread for Sunday’s game against the Cowboys has already come down from 6.5 to 5.5 points. That’s enough for us to lay the points and take the Rams at home as one of our two best bets. Matthew Stafford will put some Icy Hot on that sore elbow, Cooper Kupp will catch 15 passes and the Rams defense will be too much for Cooper Rush.
Our other best bet is the Jaguars. Don’t be afraid of the -7 next to their name.
Hey, we could also use a chest bump. Picking games is getting harder than ever. Fifty games this season, including 15 last week, have been within one score in the fourth quarter — the most through Week 4 in NFL history.
