Johnny, 31, and Matthew, 29, both of whom played at Boston College, were killed by a suspected drunk driver while biking in late August.
As the preseason begins, teams around the National Hockey League are honoring the lives of Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau with a video tribute and moment of silence.
“Whether it was on the ice or in the community, if you were fortunate enough to cross paths with the Gaudreau brothers, you were better for it,” a narrator read.
The video highlighted Johnny’s role as a player, friend, teammate, husband, father, and brother. The narrator conveyed that the brothers shared a deep devotion to the game and to each other.
“Theirs was an inseparable bond as brothers, friends, and teammates,” he read.

Meredith Gaudreau, who was married to Johnny and recently announced she’s pregnant with their third child, shared the video and expressed her gratitude.
“Beautifully said for the two best boys,” Meredith tweeted. “So heart broken but forever grateful to be John’s wife and Matty’s sister. I love you both so much.”
Their sister, Katie, who was scheduled to get married the next day, shared the video as well.
“My biggest accomplishment in life will always be being your sister. Love you forever.”
The Columbus Blue Jackets created a Gaudreau Memorial inside Nationwide Arena. They plan to keep it up all season.
