$20 million or a Grand Slam title? Well, Aussie superstar, Nick Kyrgios shared his thoughts on this a few weeks ago at the Nothing Major Podcast hosted by the American trio Jack Sock, Steve Johnson, and Sam Querrey. During a conversation, Querrey asked Kyrgios, “Would you rather have $20 million bucks right now or a Grand Slam title?” After hearing this, the Aussie asked him, “Are you serious?” Then after that, Querrey attempted to lower the amount and asked what about “$10 million.” Nick Kyrgios’ reply to this was quite interesting and recently, former WTA Pro, CoCo Vandeweghe shared her thoughts on the outspoken tennis star’s bizarre take on that topic.
What had Kyrgios said in reply to Sam Querrey’s $10 million offer, though? Well, after hearing this, Nick Kyrgios said, “$10 million, right now? I’m just saying a Slam is not that important. I guess we found out that tennis is still very business-like, it’s sort of a business thing to me.” Nick Kyrgios came closer to winning the Wimbledon Championships in 2022, but he was eventually defeated by Novak Djokovic in a four-set thriller in that epic final.
While reflecting on his thoughts on that incredible, Kyrgios once made an astonishing revelation. In December 2023, during an interview, he said, “I was so close [to winning Wimbledon in 2022] and I don’t even really love the sport, I’m only doing this because I love taking care of my family and my people.” Perhaps his constant struggles with injury concerns might have led him to jump to these types of conclusions. His only Grand Slam glory came at the doubles event in the 2022 AO! However, seeing him picking $20 million over a Grand Slam title and that too, just a few days before making his comeback, didn’t impress CoCo Vandeweghe.

During a recent episode of the Tennis Channel Live Podcast, the 33-year-old American tennis icon shared her thoughts on Kyrgios’ comment. She claimed, “That’s a silly, that’s a silly take. I’m calling BS on that one.” Since turning pro, Nick Kyrgios has collected around $12.5 million in tournament prize money. However, we should note that he earned all of that money before the 2023 season because of his inactivity after that period.

Even off the court, Nick Kyrgios has probably earned big bucks through his endorsement deals and also by working as a tennis commentator and analyst during his time away from tennis. His estimated net worth is currently said to be around $10 million. With the 2025 season already set rolling, it’d be interesting to see how much he can add more to his purse in the next twelve months.
However, recently, Nick Kyrhios criticized the ATP Tour over the lack of a proper off-season. He said, “The tour is ridiculous compared to any other sport…It’s absurd, really, the amount of travel we do, considering we don’t even get paid what we are supposed to get paid, as well, which is a joke.” Kyrgios was also seen struggling a bit with his wrist during his singles match against France’s Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard. With the 2025 AO knocking at the door, fans looked to be considered seeing that scene.
Kyrgios surely wouldn’t want to miss out on his chance to take part in his ‘Home Slam.’ Imagine the scenario inside Melbourne Park when he steps onto the court at the 2025 AO. Is he aiming for something bigger on his comeback run, though?

Nick Kyrgios’ “deep motivation” behind his extraordinary comeback to the Tour
In October 2024, during an interview with CODE Sports, Nick Kyrgios revealed that he’s making a comeback because there’s something that is keeping him around the game. What’s it, though? “I have beaten pretty much every person that has been put in front of me, made a final of a Grand Slam, won a doubles title in a Grand Slam, won multiple titles and made money…But I think the one thing that is now on my target is a Grand Slam. I think that will be the only thing that will shut people up at the end of the day. That’ll be my deep motivation.”
After hearing this comment from the Aussie, we’ve seen various reactions coming in on that topic. What does the tennis world think about Nick Kyrgios’ chances in the 2025 season? During an interview with Eurosport, tennis legend, Mats Wilander said, “I think Nick has revolutionized the sport in many ways. Players are actually using part of his arsenal or his repertoire…if Nick goes out, and he plays his absolute best tennis, and if he wins the Grand Slam, I believe maybe for the first time ever, a single player would have ticked every single box that you can tick…Nick Kyrgios has a chance to do it all.”

Not only Wilander even, Alex Corretja was seen literally quite optimistic about Kyrgios’ chances in 2025. He claimed that he believes Nick Kyrgios will reach the Top 20 next year. Pat Rafter also refused to write off Nick Kyrgios completely in this season. Jordan Thompson also highlighted the same saying, “There’s no reason he can’t come back and do damage.” Serena Williams’ former coach, Renna Stubbs suggested of his chances in 2025. A few days ago during her podcast, she said, “Listen if he’s fit and he’s hitting the ball well and can move, he can beat anybody!”
However, there were some like Nicolas Mahut, who had a slightly different opinion of Nick Kyrgios. The Frenchman said, “Kyrgios hasn’t been back that long and of course, you can dream of the title at the Australian Open, but you have to be realistic.” What are your thoughts, though? Can Nick Kyrgios win a big title in 2025?
