Being Serena Williams is not a ‘piece of cake!’ One day, we see her rocking the stage with her dazzling performance at the Super Bowl, while on the next day, she’s back trying to make a balance between her daily work and motherhood duties. In 2018, during an interview, Serena Williams admitted, “It’s been so hard balancing being a mom and starting my clothing line, as well as playing a professional sport!” She was trying to learn how to find a balance between motherhood and professional duties. However, fast forward seven years, she has not only learned that secret formula but Serena Williams has been acing it nowadays when it comes to finding a balance.
Serena Williams recently stunned the world with her crip walk during Kendrick Lamar’s performance at the Super Bowl halftime show. Controversies erupted after seeing her dancing to the tunes of ‘Not Like US’ – a diss track aimed at the Canadian rapper, Drake. There has been a lot of history surrounding a few controversial moments and speculations surrounding these three entities. Some heaped praise on Serena Williams’ “Iconic” Super Bowl performance, while others heavily criticized.
Keeping all those reactions aside for a moment, we saw Serena Williams still managing to find some time for her daughter during her rehearsals. Perhaps this is a prime example of how she manages to find a balance between her family and professional life nowadays. Shortly, after lighting up the stage at the Caesars Superdome, we find Serena Williams getting back to her normal life, performing her daily duties. The tennis legend recently uploaded a video clip on her IG stories.

In that video clip she was heard saying, “In between meetings, I ran, took Adira to the zoo, and then I’m gonna go back to the office. Just a day in the life.” No wonder why Serena Williams is often hailed as a ‘Super-Mom’! There was a time when she never wanted to choose between tennis and a family. So, the mother of two had to find a way to manage all these things. However, during a 2022 interview with Insider, Williams revealed that she often suffers from “mum guilt.”

The former ace admitted, “Mum guilt is real. I always feel so guilty when I’m doing something on my own… I don’t know if I’m a good mum. I don’t know if my method works, but I’m very hands-on with my daughter. I’ve set really good boundaries. But then after work, I’m going right to my daughter. And that’s amazing and good, but now it’s like, ‘Okay, what happens to Serena?”
Today, she has not only managed to make a balance but also managed to establish herself as an inspiration to all the other working mothers – and her husband, Alexis Ohanian knows it. During a previous interview with PEOPLE, Ohanian revealed, “Something (Williams) is really good at is shutting it off and focusing on family time and personal time.” Ohanian has time and again highlighted how work-life balance can be a “farce” if someone chases it for its own sake.
However, when it comes to his wife, Serena Williams, in another interview he said, “My wife’s got like a switch in her brain where when she’s not on the clock, she is off, she is not thinking about tennis or business or fashion or anything. It’s date night or it’s Olympia time. It’s like it is off. I’m certain that is a muscle she’s had exercised her entire career.” Alexis Ohanian has time and again reflected her admiration and support for Serena Williams and perhaps these are just some of those moments. However, recently, he also stood beside Williams while addressing the criticisms she received in the last couple of days for her performance at the Super Bowl.

Serena Williams’ performance at the Super Bowl LIX raised quite a few eyebrows. However, the most vocal critic among them was the renowned sports commentator, Stephen A. Smith. During ESPN’s ‘First Take’ show, the NBA analyst made quite a bizarre statement addressing both Serena Williams and her husband, Alexis Ohanian. What did he say?
“If I’m married and my wife is going to join trolling her ex, go back to his ass, ’cause clearly you don’t belong with me. What you worried about him for and you’re with me? Bye. Bye,” said Smith. Perhaps he was trying to highlight the headlines a few years ago, surrounding Serena Williams’ previous rumored relationship with the rapper Drake. Clearly, Stephen A. Smith wasn’t too impressed with her performance at the Super Bowl.
However, Smith’s co-panelist, Ryan Clark was heard saying, “If you were with Serena Williams, you’re going to be a kept man anyways, don’t start that.” After hearing the comments from Stephen A. Smith, Serena Williams’ husband, Alexis Ohanian recently gave a cheeky response. “I got you @stephenasmith,” Ohanian wrote in an earlier post where he had explained the reason for Serena’s cameo. Even Serena Williams’ ex-coach, Rennae Stubbs gave her reactions to the same.

She tweeted, “Ah I’m pretty sure Serena doesn’t care much for what Stephen A thinks.” Apart from the song, even Serena Williams’ crip walk stirred a major controversy on social media. Different minds have different opinions, but today’s update makes one thing clear: Serena Williams is not letting the negativity get to her.
