You can see how people’s opinions and time evolve over time. At one point, the son of a three-time NBA Slam Dunk Champion, Nate Robinson, felt extremely fortunate that Deion Sanders gave him a chance to play for CU Buffs. “I want to play for the best because Coach Prime is the GOAT, so I just want to play for somebody as special as him,” stated the player.
And now, after two seasons in Boulder, Nahmier Robinson has chosen to leave the CU Buffs in search of a fresh opportunity. A non-power conference institution appears to be the motivation behind the decision. Interesting! Right?
Well, Buffs CB Nahmier Robinson, the son of NBA legend Nate Robinson, decides to leave CU Buffs for a non-power conference school. And his X post depicted that the school is none other than Memphis. The post’s title said, “Truly Blessed💙🙏🏿.”

Skyline High School’s 5-foot-9, 170-lb defensive back will still be eligible for three more years. Also, Nahmier was ranked 205th out of all the CBs in the nation. According to Washington-only data, he is ranked 48th out of all the players. As of now, the Buffs’ roster dynamics may change because of his departure. But why did he decide to go?
It looks like he may have left CU Buffs because of the limited playing time there. Or perhaps he had left in search of a different competitive setting and an evolving CFB scene. As evidenced by his X post mentioning Coach Prime, “Thank you Coach Prime @DeionSanders, you helped me grow and I also developed as a player and a person, thank you, Colorado, 🖤🙏🏿.”
However, in June 2022, he committed to the Buffs, and after two seasons of play, he went to the transfer portal. Maybe he didn’t get the right treatment during those two seasons. With just one pass defended and no solo tackles, forced fumbles, or interceptions during the season, he showed little playing time or game participation in 2024.
Nahmier’s family had a difficult year at the time of his transfer decision. His father, 11-year NBA player Nate Robinson, who is renowned for his explosive play and unrivaled energy on the boards, has been dealing with serious health problems. As Nahmier seeks a new beginning, the fact that the elder Robinson is in need of a kidney donor adds even more personal motivation.
Under Ryan Silverfield, Memphis has an overall record of 11-2 this season. Following a successful 2023 campaign that ended with a 10-3 record and an AutoZone Liberty Bowl triumph, Silverfield’s leadership earned him a new five-year contract. That contract was extended through 2028. Additionally, the Tigers had an outstanding season this year. It demonstrates a notable progress, securing their place as AAC contenders. This might influence Nahmier’s decision to attend Memphis.
Not sure. But it’s certain that he is certainly leaving the Buffs in the wake of Deion Sanders’ NFL rumors.

Is Deion Sanders no longer in CU Buffs?
Deion Sanders has stated time and time again that he has no desire to coach in the NFL. But his name has gained steam as a potential possibility ever since the Dallas Cowboys head coach position was announced. But after a more than complex season for the team that missed the playoffs, Jerry Jones did his duty and approached the two-time Super Bowl champion. He asked directly if Deion Sanders was interested in the post left empty by Mike McCarthy. That’s when everything changed.
Sanders admitted to ESPN that he was unsure about the future but had inadvertently hinted to a potential transfer to his first NFL coaching position: “Listening to Jerry Jones is really lovely and it’s intriguing. I love Jerry and I believe in Jerry. After hanging up, processing it and thinking about it, it’s intriguing. But I love Boulder and everything about our team, the coaches, our student body and the community,” Deion remarked.

Therefore, it is evident from Deion’s comments that he will not leave CU Buffs. However, because of Sanders’ “indefiniteness,” as an additional candidate, Kellen Moore’s name brought up. And as a result, there are already voices in the media urging Sanders to make a choice. Now, after losing the outstanding CB, we’ll have to wait and see what Sanders does.
