The latest controversy around the Aussie tennis star shocked tennis fans for two reasons. The World No. 20 pleaded guilty to an old charge, as he appeared in court on crutches; assaulting his ex-girlfriend. However, what shook the fans more was the verdict of the case.
Earlier, Kyrgios tried to get the criminal charges dismissed on the grounds of mental health. However, as he failed to get a favorable result, the Aussie tennis sensation admitted to being guilty of assaulting his ex-girlfriend. Further, the ground on which the verdict was given in favor of the World N0.20 rattled the tennis fans to the core.

Nick Kyrgios appeared at the Canberra court on crutches, with his mother and current girlfriend supporting his cause. Although the guilty plea of the Aussie surprised fans, the fact that Kyrgios avoided criminal conviction enraged fans. According to the BBC, the judge announced the verdict in his favor, stating the incident as a single act of stupidity.
When the official Twitter handle of the Tennis Channel posted about the same, tennis fans to stormed the microblogging site to express their views. One fan questioned if Kyrgios would be suspended from tennis following his confession. He tweeted, “Oh the Netlifx “Golden boy”. Maybe next time you should check a person’s background before making them the main character to represent a sport. Anyway, will he get suspended from tennis?”
