The first event of the 2025 schedule, The Sentry, has caught the golf world’s attention. Its significance is that it’s a signature event of the PGA Tour and offers a grand purse of $20 million. However, apart from this, there is another significant benefit that the event offers to the local Maui community each year with the help of the tournament.
Started in 1953, the tournament focused more on the competition part, but later when it shifted to Maui, the transition towards charity began. Since 1999, more than $9 million has been donated to charity. While the PGA Tour has been the biggest contributor to charity, this is a great sign that even tournaments and sponsors are participating in it.
For the year 2024, Sentry announced a record-breaking $735,694 amount raised, which exceeded 2023’s money raised by $50,000. The raised amount is utilized to fund various charitable organizations to help the local community.
