Swiss tennis great Roger Federer bid an emotional goodbye last year. It has been a few months since his retirement and the fans are still not over it. Federer’s absence has created a definite void and it will take some time for the fans to accept it.
Although the emotions of fans are understandable, it’s strange that the tennis governing body ATP is also not over Federer yet. It might sound surprising, but if you have a look at Federer’s page on the ATP website, you will get the answer. Here’s what happened when fans saw it.

The ATP website has the record of players on the tour. It has both active and inactive players in its library. They make sure to differentiate the active ones from the retired tennis stars. However, in Federer’s case, they failed to do so. Even after months of Federer’s retirement, the ATP website hasn’t marked him as an inactive player.
Fans also noticed this thing and quickly jumped to the conclusion that even the ATP was hopeful of a return from Federer. A Reddit thread discussed the same.
While the above comment shows hope for his participation in the Wimbledon Championships 2023, another fan was even more hopeful.
Although it might not be an indication, fans and their emotions know no boundaries.
