MLB Legend takes a dig at Brittney Griner in strong take
Recently, Lenny Dykstra shared his opinion on Curry being chosen for the honorable award. In a recent tweet, Dykstra sarcastically acted surprised that Steph Curry was chosen for the award. He wrote, “Wait, they didn’t give it to Brittney Griner?!?! Not even Gabe Kaplernick?! Not Lia Thomas?!?!”
The Mets legend ironically called out the trend among media organizations to award individuals based on their political relevance and not their genuine contributions in their respective fields. He appeared to be astonished that Sports Illustrated had decided to reward Stephen Curry for his excellence instead of following the usual trend in the sports media industry.

Apart from Griner, Dykstra also named Lia Thomas and Gabe Kapler in his tweet. Thomas became the first open transgender athlete to win an NCAA Division 1 championship for swimming this year. The 22-year-old’s success subjected her to a lot of controversy, prompting discussions about trans athletes being allowed to participate in female sports.
Meanwhile, Gabe Kapler took a bold stand against mass shootings in the country in May. The San Francisco Giants manager announced he would not come out of the dugout for the national anthem in protest. Similarly, Griner had also made some controversial comments regarding the need for the national anthem in the WNBA. Her comments about the national anthem were widely criticized during her detention in Russia.
