The news of Marco Penge’s suspension has already been a shock for the golf world. The 9X DP World Tour winner has been on a great winning feat. The 26-year-old English golfer turned pro in 2017. However, he has not been in the news recently for his performances on the greens. This year something tragic happened that shook the golf world. Penge was found guilty of gambling and is suspended for 3 months.
However, he is not alone in serving the suspension period as there are a few other PGA Tour players who are facing the same. While Penge is the recent addition to the list, a breach of the rules led to his suspension. The DPWT star was sanctioned for betting on golf events, which was against the integrity of the game.
The suspension information came out on a post shared by Irish On Tour’s official X page. The post shared, “Marco Penge has been sanctioned for betting on golf events. This might just be a stupid move on his part, if it’s a more serious problem hopefully he’ll be given the support he needs.” Following that, the English golfer was suspended for 2 months and an additional fine of $2,000.

The list of suspensions began with the South Korean golfer, An Byeong-hun. The PGA Tour suspended him for three months for a doping violation against the golfer. Additionally, for the case, the PGA Tour shared with Reuters, “He has cooperated fully with the Tour throughout the process and accepted his suspension.” The 32-year-old golfer started his suspension on August 31 and has recently completed it on December 1.
After the South Korean golfer’s news of suspension, two other PGA Tour players were also suspended, but for similar reasons as Marco Penge. Vince India and Jake Staiano of the Korn Ferry Tour were also part of the suspension list for gambling. While India was suspended for six months till March 17, 2024, Staiano ended his suspension on December 10, 2024. Staiano confirmed that he has placed a total of $116 in bets in 2021.

But as others have been through the period of suspension. Marco Penge is the only one spending time away from the course in suspension. Even for the suspension, Penge has shared a statement on his social media.

Marco Penge was recently suspended as per the Integrity violation for gambling. Penge has apologized and has shared information to clarify the same. By sharing a post on Instagram, he shared that he has placed some bets in 2022 with an overall average stake of £24 and a total profit of £250. He even shared that 68% of the bets were placed before he took the integrity program education course.
Following the clarification, he even apologized stating, “This was all a genuine and honest mistake that I have taken full responsibility for and I will never make the same mistake again.” While ending with a positive note, he shared that he will be back on the course in Kenya on the 20th of February and wished all “Merry Christmas.” Now that the decision is stated, he will have to continue with his suspension till it ends.
