Why Does Xander Schauffele Hate Team Dinners Despite Max Homa’s Popular Beliefs? Presidents Cup Star’s Truth Revealed

Call up Max Homa (if you have his number, that is!) and ask him about Xander Schauffele. But mind you, don’t dub the latter as ‘boring’ in front of the 33-year-old. For he might not agree with you. Moreover, that might not be the full picture when it comes to the 2023 Open champion, since the golfer himself would be the first to flee at any event that requires a bit of dressing up. Say… a team dinner, maybe?
Schauffele, in an interview ahead of the Presidents Cup as per Golf Channel, was asked about what he would like to be changed at Bethpage in the 2025 Ryder Cup. His answer? A peculiar one, no less, as he replied, “Taking a bunch of photos all dressed up, I would be the first guy that I need to flee quickly.” Seems he has quite a repulsion for team dinners and the like.

“It just seems like it’s all these little – even like team dinners or things of that nature,” said Schauffele as he added to his reply. “We can have them sort of quick and inside versus having to go out, dress up, and all those things. It’s just small things.” Well, that was his response to the query posed to him. But will the U.S. skipper Keegan Bradley incorporate his suggestions? Unfortunately for the 2024 PGA Championship winner, it doesn’t seem like he will.

“Listen, I’ve been at these dinners with Xander,” recounted the 2025 U.S. Ryder Cup skipper as he expressed his understanding of the athlete’s situation. “Certainly you’re tired from doing all this because you’re used to sort of doing your own thing.” However, that didn’t mean that Bradley was going to call off the whole meetup for he added, “But when you’re on a team, that’s not really possible.”
The skipper, meanwhile, also pointed out how it is part and parcel of being on a team for an event like the Ryder Cup. So Xander Schauffele will have to ‘deal with it’, right? More or less, but that’s not how he put it, to be frank. For he had said, “You have to just embrace that it’s going to be a little uncomfortable for your daily routine, but like I said, for me, I want to be with the guys.” Quite a letdown, it might seem for the 30-year-old. But his ‘buddy’ Max Homa, who finds the athlete as a funny guy will hopefully help overcome any troubles Schauffele faces.
Max Homa comes out candid on Xander Schauffele’s character
“I’ve known Xander a long time,” said Homa as he pointed out how funny it is when people always talk about the so-called “different side of him.” He also said, “I fortunately and unfortunately get to see this side of him. He is a pot stirrer. He is witty, funny. He’s just everything you’d want in like a buddy.” No wonder the 33-year-old gets irked when people call Schauffele ‘boring’.
But that’s not all he said about the 30-year-old golfer. The athlete also alluded to the fellow PGA Tour Pro’s recent wins and finishes this season before conveying, “It’s been fun seeing him be so successful this year.” Well, it appears Schauffele has got a friend in Homa. Someone whom he would hope to help him ensure team U.S.A’s victory over the International team in Montreal.
