Michael Jordan had entered the dark side of the gambling world. This meant that he was indebted to many and in trouble. Well, at least this was the narrative created around his habit. But upon investigation, the league concluded that the issue never reached a level of crisis. On the other hand, Jordan always maintained that his gambling tendencies were never a calamity. For him, gambling revolved around betting on himself away from the court rather than on games. With this in mind, in 2019, NASCAR’s Denny Hamlin spoke about Jordan’s gambling rules in an interview.
The six-time NBA Champion combined his gambling tendencies with a sport he finds challenging, golf. While he plays the game with friends, he adds another layer of challenge by placing bets and making money out of each game. Denny Hamlin, a minority owner in Jordan’s NASCAR team, is part of the NBA Legend’s golfing squad and knows the intricate details of gambling with Jordan.

In 2019, on The Dan Patrick show, Hamlin spoke about his experience of playing golf with the six-time NBA Finals MVP. While he narrated their golf routine, Dan Patrick quickly questioned Hamlin about the money or “action” involved in each game.

The race car driver didn’t shy away from speaking about this. He revealed an unsaid rule that Jordan follows with gambling. The rule is that anyone in the mixture has to pay and deal with cash only. He said, “It’s in the bag, everyone’s got theirs in the bag for sure. You better be coming prepared with a little bag in your bag”.
After stating this, Hamlin noted that a few thousand dollars are on the table but the end amount is usually a “comfortable” one for Jordan and his other group of friends.

Hamlin revealed that playing golf with the Billionaire and his friends meant playing the game fast. They wait for nobody and focus on finishing the course at an average time of three hours.

He said, “You drive to your ball, and you hit”. He stated that if there was someone ahead of them playing, then that didn’t matter as Jordan and his team would just give them a heads-up and continue playing the game.
