At this point, everyone is discussing whether Austin Dillon deserves the win or not. The RCR driver decided to take the race leader Joey Logano out by causing him to spin out on the last turn, and before the dust of that settled, he also wrecked Denny Hamlin. It’s obvious why Joey Logano was mad after the race, and that was seen in the post-race interview.
NASCAR ruled Austin Dillon the winner of the race, and that has brought up many questions from fans and critics alike. Many want to know if such reckless driving is permissible by the sport, and former RCR driver Kevin Harvick‘s son was one of them.

Kevin Harvick is a legend in the NASCAR community and many drivers look up to him. He also has a son who drives in the CARS tour series and after seeing the incident on the Richmond Raceway, he got an unexpected call from his son. On the NASCAR’s FOX YouTube channel ‘Kevin Harvick’s Happy Hour, the former Richard Childress Racing driver shares what he went through right after the Cookout 400.

After talking about the incident that put Austin Dillon across the checkered flag first, Harvick added, “But here’s the hard part: 15 seconds after this race ended and the cars crossed the start-finish line, my phone’s ringing, and the first question from Kelen was, ‘Dad, is that okay for me to do? What would you tell me?’” Keelan explained what happened in the recent CARS Tour race at Hickory as the officials penalized the driver who spun out the race leader in a similar scenario.
To this, Kevin Harvick replied saying, “Now, what we have to decide as an industry is what’s right and what’s wrong. How do we officiate it? Who’s going to officiate it? Because I don’t think that’s exactly how everybody wants to race, but it’s the position you’re in this type of scenario with the points and the playoff system and the things that we do, knowing that there are no consequences. There are no consequences for what just happened.”
According to Kevin Harvick, NASCAR needs to figure out what to do in such cases as this is detrimental to the sport. He added, “So, we just have to decide as an industry what we want and what the professional level is. Are we leading the racing industry to teach them the correct things from top to bottom? Because the way that we would teach this from the bottom is not what just happened, and I just don’t know that that’s right.”

The issue became more serious for Kevin Harvick as he realized with his son’s call that younger and newer drivers are getting wrongly inspired by Dillon’s move if NASCAR does not take action. However, so far, there has been no word from the officials. Harvick was concerned about the future of the sport, and so were other critics. But while the former RCR driver is waiting for NASCAR to take a result, Kenny Wallace believes that will not happen.

Wallace stated that NASCAR “can’t fine him” because if they did, the officials would have to go back on their original decision. Austin Dillon caused a double wreck to win his first race in two years and this is seen as unfair according to many fans and critics. Ultimately, the ruling is done and he has made it into the playoffs, leaving many fans in shock. Now that question that stands is, will NASCAR permit such behavior again?
